    Mindset schematics

Maybe @falter bought it. I think he’s trying to collect all of them. ;)

Any way of changing CGA/MDA fonts?

This is a manual here for the deskpro 386, but I think the default was still a later version of this card. Page 11-4 describes the details. (About page 173 of the pdf) https://archive.org/details/compaq-desk-pro-386-technical-reference-guide-vol-2-1986-09/page/n172/mode/1up

Any way of changing CGA/MDA fonts?

Right. They were just in a different order than whatever that tool was expecting. I’m the one that dumped that ROM so it’s certainly possible I messed it up :)

Any way of changing CGA/MDA fonts?

There is a dump of that ROM here: https://minuszerodegrees.net/rom/rom.htm I tried using the tool here to view it, and it worked, but the characters didn’t match.

It’s the 28pin AMD dip chip at U41. In your photo you can not quite see all of the silkscreen for that location

Information on an ATI EGA Wonder dongle thingy?

I often look on eBay at Compaq Portable to see if any have a non-standard video card, but so far I haven't found one. It would be cool to find one of these cards in a system though, so that someone could maybe make a clone of the adapter. I've got the original compaq EGA card, so I don't...

Board scans wanted for IBM 5160 cloning project

If he builds the board to tempest specs, will that prevent it from spying on itself?

Blew in from the Canadian prairies

Welcome. I've never been to the Canadian prairies, but I'd like to go someday. Are there any particular older devices that you prefer to restore or collect? I like mostly IBM and compatible stuff, but I've got some Commodore 64 and a tiny bit of Apple stuff too.

How picky is NT 4.0 with CPUs?

I worked at a place that ran NT 4.0 on Dell Optiplex GX260 which are P4. Looking at Dell's website they will let you pick NT 4.0 on their drivers site all the way up to GX280 This same place that I worked had a bunch of IBM Thinkpads that were USB only, and they wanted to be able to use...

Board scans wanted for IBM 5160 cloning project

The board wouldn't quite fit on the scanner I had easy access to, so I scanned it in both directions. My older scanner seems better, and I think it will do longer documents, but it's in storage right now. They also seem a little fuzzy, perhaps because they cannot sit flat on the glass.

    Vintage Compaq Plus Humor

I wouldn't expect an HD drive (with an HD formatted disk) to work on a compaq portable, I don't think the controller supports HD. The keyboard cable uses a square plug, instead of a round DIN like most XT class keyboards. I think someone suggested at there was a different voltage present too...

Board scans wanted for IBM 5160 cloning project

I know I've got at least one loose board and another in an XT, that are the 64K to 256K variety, I'm not sure if they are the same though. Are you wanting the board placed on a scanner? Or will a photograph work? I don't think my scanner would handle a board that big, and I'm not sure of the...

What is this? Post Photos of Mystery Items Here (vintage computers only)

Might not be too far off, back then. I had a coworker in the 90s that worked for Phillips petroleum previously and they had a Cray (ymp I think) in the early 90s that was used for geological science stuff of some sort, finding oil. To keep the thing busy they used an IBM mainframe that was...

    Weird Intel Windows 3.1

I wonder if those disks are really QD. 7 disks is how many were used with windows 3.1 and HD 1.2MB floppies.
