    RetroBrew Computers Forum?

And now I can too. Thank you - maybe the powers that run it heard this thread somehow. :)

    RetroBrew Computers Forum?

Does anyone know what's up with RetroBrew Computers Forum? It just gives me a 503, and has been doing so for a few weeks now. The wiki is up, but no explanation there, AFAICT.

Need help to recover a more modern Mac IDE drive with Linux

For anything off a Mac, HFSExplorer is nice. As you already have an image, you are free to experiment (I ususally make a copy of the image, that way I still have the original if I mess up).

Soldering fallacies -- heat capacity vs. temperature

professionally, you have a solder station (Weller, JBC or another brand) with a handle and replaceable tips. So if you switch from soldering 0.1 mm enameled wire on a pcb to say 10 AWG wire for cables or something, you switch to a tip with larger heat capacity for that.

    Why +5V And Not -5V?

No, it was because the the 7905 only required 1V headroom, while the 7805 required 2V. Things have improved since then.
