So HDD was mostly on the right side of the drive bays on the clone xt machines? I guess this because, on the underside are two more screw holes. An HDD have much more weight, so iam guessing the two extra holes on the bottom make the hdd secured better?

Its not so sure if the original IBM side plates works for XT clones as well. Maybe they are to thick.. Also could be that the IBM enclosures have litte more side spacing to get the drive inside the front of the case with the original IBM brackets. Could be that mine XT clone is a litte bit...

Maybe it was about the cost.. Those 286 boards where very expensive in the earlier days.. So when you can attach a 286 to a XT platform, then its a lot cheaper thing, because you dont have to re-design a whole new platform.. Because XT platform was already existing. Maybe it was just a cheaper...

Extra note. I see on the retroweb that FSB is 12.5Mhz. My boards using a 20.000Mhz crystal.. So probably these where for 10 Mhz cpus too.
