DEC units on ebay

Seems like a strange thing to try and sell fraudulently. Usually you want small, high value items that a lot of people buy(like xboxes or iphones are something). A DEC system is a very niche item any buyer is likely to vet thoroughly and(as you did) notice is an obvious fraud.

I am surprised that the Ebay account is still up. In the meantime more bids have come in taking the PDP-8/e to $132.50. What a bargain. Imagine if this would be real.

Or a million users having a stupid simple password that could be guessed easily.
I think it's a matter of large numbers.
There are over 135 million active eBay users worldwide.
Between 20% and 30% of passwords are weak, even if eBay restricts password trials to three attempts, it means that millions eBay accounts could be easily compromised.
All it needs is a way to bypass CORS protections. I guess that it could be done easily with an unrelated rogue App. The rogue App would appear legitimate to its users yet it would mine eBay for weak passwords for its designer.
