You dont see these come up for sale very much at all. Amber CP/M Luggable with built in 5.25" floppy drive and 8" floppy connector on the rear. Built in modem with direct conenction or accoustic coupler and built in printer. Seems to be missing the printer cover and optional tractor feed rollers: https://www.ebay.com/itm/204775092201
 
I don't think anyone ever called the old luggables "elegant".

I wonder how tough it would be to 3d-print a new printer cover and roller wheels for it?

Id have to pull down mine but Im pretty sure you can still print single sheets of paper without the tractor feed rollers. Need to double check that. The top cover is smoked acrylic. So an epoxy'd cut acrylic cover might be easier.

The keyboard is a bit mushy but the amber CRT is excellent. I will give it the credit of having a steel chassis compared to plastic. Adds to heft but the durability is there.. and in my case corrosion.

Easier to build but harder to make look pretty. An ABS-treated 3d printed shell with an acetone wash could potentially replicate the look of the original while only loosing transparency. Unless the original part actually had angled edges, glued acrylic is just going to look like a kludge.

I would love to be better at making things out of acrylic.
 
Its true, many acrylic jobs look bad with micro cracking and incorrect adhesion.

I guess at the end of the day it just has to not be noticeable....
 
You seem like the kind of guy who's probably also in to 3d printing, are you familiar with the acetone wash technique?

You know, Im not. Although I want to be. The problem is space. You need a dedicated area for 3d printing but I have far too many projects splayed out all over the place at any given time. The thought of a 3d printer is always in the background though.
 
How much space you need all depends on what you want to accomplish with it I guess. There's some very small printers out there capable of printing only very small things.

It is good to have hobbies, though.
